After getting married in September 2000 we settled down in the townland of Cavanagh, near Newtownbutler in County Fermanagh and made our home in the beautiful Lakeland county of Northern Ireland
With a background in farming we started to build our first free range hen house in September 2001 and our first flock of birds were housed in January 2002 and we established our egg business. Our first son, Brian, was born in March 2002 and our second son, Aaron, was born in August 2003, the same month as our second hen house was completed. We built a further two hen houses, one was in production in May 2005 and the other February 2011. Further expansions between 2015 & 2019 meant that Cavanagh Free Range Eggs now pack eggs from 75,000 birds in 7 flocks across 4 family run sites, 2 of which are family members and a local farmer.
We firmly believe that contented hens lay great quality eggs. Our hens are all free to roam the countryside and we are dedicated to creating the best possible environment for them. The hens produce approximately 24 million eggs between them every year.
Up until February 2012 our eggs went to a local packing centre. We launched into the Cavanagh Free Range brand in March 2012 and set up our own packing centre to grade, pack, market and deliver our own eggs.
We supply our free range eggs to Independent Retail Outlets, all Asda Stores in NI and larger Tesco and Spar stores in NI. We also supply a number of hotels including The Merchant Hotel, Belfast and the Lough Erne Golf Resort, Enniskillen, who hosted the G8 Summit in 2013, as well as several cafes and restaurants throughout Northern Ireland and further afield.
